Common Types of STI's

  1. HIV- is a virus that attacks the immune system.                                                                                                                                                                    HIV cannot be cured but can be managed through ARVs and eating healthy.
  2. HPV- human papillomavirus, which is a group of virus that affect the skin and membranes, such as the throat, cervix, anus and mouth, and can increase the risk of cervical & throat cancer.
  3. Syphilis- it is potentially a serious infection & early treatment is necessary to prevent permanent damage and long term complications.
  4. Gonorrhoea: a bacterium highly contagious and without treatment can lead to life threatening complications. If you touch an area infected with gonorrhoea and then then touch your eye it can lead to pink eye. Pregnant women can pass it to baby during delivery.
  5. Chlamydia- is common infection that can spread through anal, vaginal and oral sex. It can result in infertility and other complications. However, it is easy to cure with early treatment.
